Gemeinsam mit 39 Konsortiumspartnern aus 14 Ländern beteiligen sich regionale Mobilitätsexperten unter der Federführung des Automotive Engineering Networks e.V. an einem zukunftsträchtigen EU-Projekt im Bereich Last Mile Logistik.
URBANE (Upscaling Innovative Green Urban Logistics Solutions Through Multi-Actor Collaboration and Physical Internet (PI) – Inspired Last Mile Deliveries) ist ein 42 Monate dauerndes Projekt, das im Rahmen des neuen EU-Programms Horizon mit einem Budget von rund 9 Millionen Euro finanziert wird.
Projektziel ist es, neuartige Lösungen für die Zustellung auf der letzten Meile zu entwickeln, die umweltfreundliche automatisierte Fahrzeuge und Modelle zur gemeinsamen Nutzung von Flächen kombinieren. Führende europäische Städte, Forschungsexperten und Wissenspartner, Anbieter von Lösungen für gemeinsam genutzte, vernetzte und automatisierte Abläufe sowie Branchenführer im Bereich Logistikdienstleistungen trafen sich im Oktober 2022 zum ersten Workshops in Athen.
Das „URBANE Team Karlsruhe“ besteht aus Automotive Engineering Network, Stadt Karlsruhe, SEW Eurodrive und der AVG als Dienstleister für den öffentlichen Nahverkehr im Raum Karlsruhe. Ziel ist es, eine Machbarkeitsstudie zu entwickeln, in der die Implementierung von intermodalen Lösungen, die die Auslieferung von Paketen durch Roboter mithilfe schienengebundener TramTrains untersucht werden soll.
Wie eine mögliche Umsetzung in Zukunft aussehen könnte, soll durch ein Living Lab in der Innenstadt Karlsruhe demonstriert und dabei die Akzeptanz der Zivilgesellschaft bezüglich der Nutzung von Straßenbahnen für den Pakettransport mit Robotern abgefragt werden. Da Karlsruhe als sogenanntes „Twinning Living Lab“ agiert, wird die Umsetzung erst nach erfolgreichem Start der ersten Living Labs der Städten Helsinki, Bologna, Valladolid und Thessaloniki im dritten Quartal 2023 anlaufen.

URBANE (Upscaling Innovative Green Urban Logistics Solutions Through Multi-Actor Collaboration and Physical Internet (PI) – Inspired Last Mile Deliveries) is a 42-month project co-funded by the new Horizon Europe Programme(HEU) with a budget of around 9 million EUR. It aims to develop novel last-mile delivery solutions combining green automated vehicles and shared space utilisation models. Leading European cities, research experts andknowledge partners, solution providers for shared, connected, and automated operations, and industry leaders inlogistics services started the project in September 2022. The Karlsruhe team consists of City of Karlsruhe (Economic Development Department), Automotive Engineering Network, Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft, TransportTechnologie-Consult Karlsruhe and SEW-EURODRIVE aiming to evaluate parcel delivery via robots and trams. Furthermore Karlsruhe acts as a twin Living Lab of Helsinki and Barcelona.
URBANE’s goals are part of the wider European Commission’s goals towards achieving “zero emission last- mile deliveries”’, as components of the European Green Digital Coalition and the European Climate Pact goals.
The project will support the transition path towards effective, resilient, safe, and sustainable last-mile transport, through four Lighthouse Living Labs (LLs): Helsinki (FI), Bologna (IT), Valladolid (ES), and Thessaloniki (GR), that will demonstrate efficient, replicable, and socially acceptable innovative last-mile delivery solutions (Wave 1 solutions), building on existing assets.
Hands-on lesson learning at the European level will be primarily facilitated by an Innovation Transferability Platform comprising Digital Twinning Tools, open models, smart contracts governed by blockchain technology, and a data-driven Impact Assessment Radar that will enable theadaptation and replication of Wave 1 solutions in two Twinning LLs in Barcelona and Karlsruhe (Wave 2 LLs), demonstrating their solutions within the course of the project.
URBANE’s commitment to upscaling is further strengthened by the engagement of six early adopters (Follower Cities – Aarhus (DK),Antwerp (NL), La Rochelle (FR), Mechelen (BE), Prague (CZ), and Ravenna (IT)) in innovations’ adoption feasibility studies, thus stimulating the formulation of new Living Lab communities across Europe.
